Requires hospitals licensed by the office of mental health, hospitals subject to article twenty-eight of the public health law, and correctional facilities to employ a staff member specifically trained in filing assisted outpatient treatment petitions

Commissioner of mental hygiene, in consultation with the commissioners of health and corrections and community supervision, shall establish and enforce this training requirement

Individuals being released from mental health hospitals or correctional facilities who have a history of mental illness or are determined by court-ordered evaluation to suffer from mental illness must be counseled on and registered with available services before release

Effective on the thirtieth day after the act becomes law
