Amends Criminal Procedure Law Section 310.30 to require courts to provide written instructions when juries request them regarding elements of offenses or defenses submitted in a case.

Mandates that before providing such written instructions, the court must permit counsel to examine them, afford counsel an opportunity to be heard, mark instructions as a court exhibit, and read them aloud to the jury.

Applies to all trials commenced on or after the effective date.

Known as the "Tiarah Poyau Act."
