Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, died on September 18, 2020, at age 87

She became the first woman and first Jewish person to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol building and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery

Ginsburg spent over four decades as a leading advocate for gender equality and women's rights, including her work launching the ACLU Women's Rights Project (1973-1980)

She was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit by President Jimmy Carter in 1980 and to the Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton in June 1993

The resolution expresses the New York State Legislature's condolences to her family and celebrates her judicial legacy as an inspiration for empowered women and advocates for equal protection under the 14th Amendment
