Honors Wayne Spence upon receiving the Annual American Labor Studies Award from the American Labor Studies Center, to be celebrated on December 4, 2020

Spence is President of the Public Employees Federation (PEF), elected in June 2015 as the union's first African-American President and re-elected in June 2018 for a second three-year term

Spence negotiated two successful PEF contracts that included across-the-board raises with no givebacks, and serves on executive boards of AFT, SEIU, and New York State AFL-CIO

Over a 28-year career as a parole officer, Spence held multiple leadership positions in PEF and currently serves on the New York State Comptroller's Advisory Council and various community boards

Spence is a certified Police Firearms Instructor and member of community organizations including 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care and the First Baptist Church of Freeport Trustee Board
