Creates new offense of "causing the death of an animal" as a class D felony when a person commits animal cruelty crimes under sections 353 or 353-a that result in an animal's death.

Removes "or kills" language from section 353 (animal cruelty statute) to separate animal killing into its own distinct felony offense.

Removes "intentionally kills or" language from section 353-a (aggravated cruelty to animals statute) to focus that offense on causing serious physical injury rather than death.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
