Community district education councils must establish a safety hazard advisory review committee from among their members to review unsafe conditions along student routes to and from school

The committee reviews conditions upon written request from parents who have submitted a variance request to the office of pupil transportation based on hazardous or unsafe route conditions

The committee makes findings of fact and recommendations that are submitted to the community council, which may adopt them or request additional information before sending findings to the parent and office of pupil transportation

The committee may also review unsafe conditions upon written request from a community council member or school administrator, with findings and recommendations submitted to the requesting party and the office of pupil transportation

The act takes effect July 1 following enactment
