Grants William J. Cooley, a Buffalo police officer in the state and local police and fire retirement system, service credit for his employment as a deputy sheriff with the Erie County Sheriff's Department from June 16, 2003 through July 15, 2006.

Cooley becomes entitled to full rights and benefits under sections 384-d and 384-e of the retirement and social security law for the credited period, provided he files a request with the state comptroller within one year of the act's effective date.

The city of Buffalo must bear all past service costs, estimated at approximately $303,000 as a one-time payment on February 1, 2021, with no increase to the city's annual retirement contributions.

The act takes effect immediately upon enactment.
