Board of Elections must notify voters within one day of determining an absentee ballot has deficiencies such as missing signature, non-matching signature, missing witness, or missing affirmation envelope.

Board must contact voters by mail, email, or telephone (if available) to inform them of the deficiency and the opportunity to cure it within seven business days.

Voters may cure defects by submitting a signed affirmation form (prescribed by the State Board of Elections) attesting to the required information and confirming they submitted the ballot.

If the Board is split on whether the cure affirmation is sufficient, the envelope is set aside for three days before canvassing unless directed otherwise by court order.

Voters with non-curable defects must be notified by mail within three business days; if an unsealed ballot is received before Election Day, the Board must notify the voter of other voting options and provide a new absentee ballot if time permits.
