Department of Corrections and Community Supervision must conduct a study of treatment, conditions, and prevalence of aging prison populations and develop plans for this inmate segment.

Study must include demographic profiles of elderly inmates (age, sentence length, race, gender, crime type), projections for the next 5, 10, and 20 years, and factors contributing to growth in elderly inmate populations.

Study must assess whether elderly inmates receive adequate specialized housing, medical care, and programs for unique needs such as wheelchair accessibility and accommodations for diminished mental or physical capacity.

Study must evaluate specialized training provided to corrections officers working with older inmates and review classification, facility assignments, and institutional oversight mechanisms for elderly inmates.

Department must submit findings, conclusions, and legislative recommendations to the governor and legislature no later than one year after the act takes effect.
