School districts that receive notice of designation as a polling place may file a written request for cancellation within 30 days, which must be granted by the designating authority.

For non-school public buildings designated as polling places, the controlling board or body may request cancellation within 30 days, and the designating authority must determine within 20 days whether use would unreasonably interfere with usual building activities.

School districts may, by board resolution, elect to designate a publicly accessible location outside of school buildings for conducting annual meetings and elections, removing the requirement to use schoolhouses.

City school districts may, by board resolution, designate publicly accessible alternative locations for school elections instead of schoolhouses when circumstances warrant.

The act takes effect immediately upon enactment.
