Requires the Department of Correction and Community Supervision to assist inmates eligible for or on community supervision in securing housing prior to release through comprehensive discharge planning that explores all available housing resources.

Mandates the department reimburse local social services districts for the cost of temporary shelter housing when discharge planning results in release to a shelter regulated under 18 NYCRR Parts 491 and 900.

Requires the department to provide local social services districts with a detailed report of all discharge planning efforts at least thirty days before release to temporary shelter housing.

Mandates monthly reports from the department to local social services districts for thirty days following discharge describing continued assistance provided to help the inmate obtain permanent housing (not temporary shelter) that complies with parole terms.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
