Department of Health must create an informational pamphlet for patients considering laparoscopic power morcellation surgery by July 1, 2023, developed in consultation with medical societies and healthcare professionals.

Pamphlet must include definitions, risks and benefits, alternative procedures, cancer screening requirements, privacy protections, and explicit mention that the procedure may spread undetected cancer cells.

Pamphlet must be written in plain language and available in English plus the six most common non-English languages spoken by limited English proficient individuals in New York State based on recent census data.

Practitioners must provide the pamphlet to patients prior to performing laparoscopic power morcellation surgery.

Pamphlet must be posted as a printable file on the Department's website and made available for order as a printed copy, and include contact information for reporting professional misconduct.
