The New York State Senate commends Captain Anthony Mascia and Police Officers Jeremias Rivera, Victor Cabral, Anthony Diaz, Fransisco Baeto, and Christopher Estevez as recipients of the Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the Senate.

On January 18, 2022, these first responders rushed into a burning three-story residential building in the Longwood neighborhood of the Bronx after an explosion and collapse, rescuing residents from the rubble despite severe danger.

The officers remained calm under pressure and risked their own lives to ensure all residents were safe, with some responders sustaining severe injuries during the rescue efforts.

A copy of this resolution shall be transmitted to each of the six honorees.
