Requests Governor Kathy Hochul proclaim Sunday, June 12, 2022, as Women Veterans Recognition Day in New York State

Commemorates the 74th anniversary of President Harry S. Truman's signing of the Women's Armed Services Act of 1948, which established a permanent role for women in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines

Notes that women now represent 16 percent of enlisted forces and 19 percent of the officer corps, compared to 2 percent and 8 percent respectively when the draft ended in 1973

Recognizes approximately 714,000 veterans in New York State, of whom 8.8 percent are women veterans, and honors the over 2 million women veterans nationally

References New York's 1998 dedication of the New York State Women Veterans Memorial in Albany to honor 1.2 million women who served in the military over the past 200 years
