Requests Governor Kathy Hochul proclaim June 19-25, 2022, as Lightning Safety Awareness Week in New York, in conjunction with National Lightning Safety Awareness Week.

Lightning strikes the United States approximately 25 million times per year and reaches temperatures around 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Lightning kills an average of 47 people annually in the United States with hundreds more severely injured.

National Lightning Safety Awareness Week was established in 2001, and lightning fatalities have dropped significantly since its inception due to increased public awareness.

Directs transmission of this resolution to Governor Hochul to encourage greater public awareness and promotion of lightning safety precautions.
