Board of Education composition changes to 15 members effective July 1, 2022: five members appointed by borough presidents, one member elected by community district education and city-wide council presidents, and nine members appointed by the Mayor.

Chancellor must promulgate regulations by December 31, 2021 establishing the process for community district and city-wide council presidents to elect a board member, including removal procedures and vacancy protocols.

Elected board member serves two-year terms commencing July 1, with the first member's term ending June 30, 2024.

Parents of students with individualized education programs and parents in bilingual or English as a second language programs may continue serving their council terms after their child's participation concludes.

High school parent council members may continue serving after their child's graduation, and selection process changes for councils whose terms begin in 2022 and thereafter.
