Upon death of a candidate, former candidate, or elected official, remaining campaign funds must be transferred to the New York State Comptroller for deposit in the general state treasury, except amounts owed to political parties.

Political committee treasurers must notify the State Board of Elections within thirty days of the death of a candidate, former candidate, or elected official.

Candidates, former candidates, or elected officials may designate a charitable organization at any time to receive remaining campaign funds upon their death by filing notice with the State Board of Elections.

If a designated charitable organization no longer exists at the time of the person's death, remaining moneys revert to the state general treasury.

The act takes effect sixty days after enactment and applies only to campaign contributions received after the effective date; the State Board of Elections must notify all registered campaign committees within thirty days of enactment.
