Replaces all instances of "councilman" or "councilmen" with "council member" or "council members" throughout the General City Law, General Municipal Law, Public Authorities Law, Real Property Law, Town Law, and Village Law.

Changes "councilwoman" and "councilwomen" references to the gender-neutral term "council member" or "council members" to include all persons eligible to hold such office.

Replaces gendered pronouns "he/his" with "they/their" in references to council members and other officials throughout the affected statutes.

Updates related terminology including "chairman" to "chair" and "aldermen" to "alderpersons" in applicable sections.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
