Changes the word "may" to "shall" in Judiciary Law Section 115, requiring retired Supreme Court justices to be certified by the administrative board for continued service upon application and proper findings, rather than making it optional.

Updates gender-specific language throughout both sections by replacing "his" with "his or her" and "he" with "he or she" to be gender-neutral.

Maintains existing requirements that certifications are valid for two-year terms, require findings of mental and physical capacity and service necessity, and expire when a retired judge or justice reaches age seventy-six.

Takes effect immediately upon passage.
