Amends the Correction Law definition of serious mental illness for incarcerated individuals in segregated confinement to reference the definition in the Mental Hygiene Law rather than listing specific diagnoses.

Removes the current requirement that individuals have one or more specific Axis I diagnoses (including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, and other psychotic disorders) based on clinical assessment.

Replaces the detailed diagnostic criteria with a reference to "person with a serious mental illness" as defined in subdivision 52 of section 1.03 of the Mental Hygiene Law.

Takes effect 90 days after becoming law.
