Creates the New York State Violence in Mass Media Research Program within the Firearm Violence Research Institute to research effects of violent crime reporting in mass media.

Program shall advise state officials on how media reporting may unintentionally glorify violent crimes, encourage copycat violence, create racial stereotyping, and prejudice jurors in criminal cases.

Authorizes the program to conduct research on mass media reporting practices, prevention and treatment of mass public violence, and effects of media coverage on racial profiling and jury outcomes.

Program shall foster collaborative research, establish expert networks, organize meetings, provide training for new researchers, and distribute publications to the legislature and relevant agencies.

Funding for the program shall come from the Firearm Violence Research Fund following appropriation by the legislature, with the act taking effect 90 days after enactment.
