Abolishes the office of coroner in all New York counties except Lewis and Madison counties, effective January 1, 2025.

Allows county boards of supervisors to replace the coroner position with a medical examiner position by local law, subject to a permissive referendum and at least 150 days' notice before a general election.

Terminates the terms of all sitting coroners upon appointment and qualification of a medical examiner, with no additional coroners to be elected in affected counties thereafter.
