Establishes eligibility for David Morse to file for accidental death benefits under sections 361 and 361-a of the Retirement and Social Security Law following the death of his son, firefighter Peyton Morse, on March 12, 2021.

Peyton Morse was employed by the City of Watertown as a firefighter and a Tier 6 member of the New York State and Local Police and Fire Retirement System at the time of his death.

Any amounts previously paid to Peyton Morse, his estate, or David Morse prior to filing the benefits application shall be deducted from the benefit payable under this act.

All costs of the benefit shall be borne by the State of New York, with an estimated one-time past service cost of approximately $1.52 million payable by March 1, 2024.

The act takes effect immediately upon enactment.
