Authorizes any municipality to enact local laws imposing residency restrictions on sex offenders required to register under Article 6-C of the Correction Law.

Requires municipal residency restrictions to be no less restrictive than requirements in Penal Law section 65.10(4-a)(a) and Executive Law section 259-c(14).

Establishes legislative finding that municipalities are better positioned than the state to determine appropriate residency restrictions based on local conditions and vulnerable populations requiring protection.

Renumbers existing Correction Law section 168-w to section 168-x and creates new section 168-w for municipal authority.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
