Amends insurance law to clarify that supplemental spousal liability insurance requirements apply only to policies issued to married insureds.

Married insureds must receive written notification on the front of premium notices in boldface type that supplemental spousal liability insurance is included by default, unless they decline in writing.

Single or unmarried insureds are excluded from default coverage but may elect to accept supplemental spousal liability insurance in writing if they choose.

Single or unmarried insureds must receive written notification on the front of premium notices in boldface type that supplemental spousal liability insurance is not included unless they request it in writing.

The act takes effect 120 days after becoming law, with provisions for the amendment to expire and revert according to the timeline established in chapter 735 of the laws of 2022.
