Removes "self-insurance or" language from Insurance Law Section 3420(f)(5), making the supplementary uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage requirement applicable only to policies, not self-insurance contracts.

Clarifies that police vehicles must be principally garaged or used in New York State to qualify for supplementary uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage requirements.

Removes the requirement that supplementary uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage be "no less than the bodily injury liability insurance limits of coverage provided under such policy" for fire departments, ambulance services, and police agencies.

Amends the effective date provision in the 2023 law to apply the coverage requirements only to "policies" rather than "policies and contracts" issued, renewed, modified, altered or amended on or after the effective date.

Coordinates the effective date of this amendment with the 2023 legislation (S.439/A.1178) on supplementary uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage for police agencies.
