Department of Corrections and Community Supervision shall conduct a study on treatment, conditions, and prevalence of aging prison populations and departmental plans for this segment.

Study must include demographic profile of elderly incarcerated individuals, projections for the next 5, 10, and 20 years, and factors contributing to population growth.

Study shall assess adequacy of specialized housing, medical care, and programs for elderly prisoners including wheelchair accessibility and accommodations for diminished mental or physical capacity.

Study must document specialized training provided to corrections officers working with older incarcerated individuals and review classification, facility assignments, and institutional oversight mechanisms.

Department shall submit findings, conclusions, and legislative recommendations to the governor and legislature no later than one year after the act takes effect.
