Adds new section 2801-c to New York Education Law authorizing the hiring of school resource officers.

Defines "school resource officer" to include school safety officers, school security officers, or substantially similar positions focused on providing public safety and security on school grounds.

Authorizes boards of cooperative educational services and public or nonpublic school districts outside cities with populations of one million or more to hire school resource officers or contract for these services with the state, county, city, town, or village.

Establishes the principal role of school resource officers as providing improved public safety and security through community policing techniques, investigative measures, and tactical preparedness, with authority to define additional roles.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
