Commends Leigha Walker, an 18-year-old honors student from Holley, New York, for receiving a Liberty Medal from the New York State Senate for exceptional humanitarian acts.

On June 9, 2024, Walker responded to a vehicle crash into the Brockport Subway restaurant where she was employed, immediately calling 911 and coordinating rescue efforts to extract an unconscious driver from a locked truck.

Walker used a wooden rod to help break the truck's window, assisted in removing the driver, and administered CPR chest compressions after firefighters arrived with an AED device until Monroe Ambulance transported the victim to the hospital.

The entire response from the initial 911 call to hospital transport took 12 minutes, and Walker completed the remaining four hours of her work shift after the incident.

The driver's family and the Brockport Fire District Chief credited Walker's quick response and lifesaving CPR with saving the man's life.
