Abolishes the office of coroner in all New York counties except Lewis and Madison counties, effective January 1, 2025.

Allows county boards of supervisors to replace the coroner office with a medical examiner office through local law, subject to a permissive referendum and at least 150 days prior notice before a general election.

Terminates the terms of all sitting coroners upon appointment and qualification of a medical examiner, with no coroners to be elected in the county thereafter.
