Requires all police officers employed by cities, counties, towns, villages, authorities, or agencies in New York to obtain and maintain liability insurance coverage throughout their employment.

Police officers must provide proof of liability insurance and keep continuous coverage for claims arising from acts or omissions during the scope of their employment duties.

Employers must cover the base rate of the required liability insurance policy.

Excludes police officers and peace officers from provisions of Public Officers Law Section 17 that require the state to defend and indemnify state officers and employees.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
