Establishes a rebuttable presumption that heart disease causing total or partial disability or death in deputy sheriffs employed by cities with populations of one million or more was incurred in the performance of duty, provided the employee passed a physical examination upon entry showing no evidence of the condition.

Applies only to paid employees performing deputy sheriff duties who were hired through competitive civil service lists in the sheriff's department of qualifying cities.

Provides deputy sheriffs retiring under this presumption with a pension equal to 75% of final average salary, compared to the current ordinary disability benefit of approximately one-third of salary.

Estimated to increase the present value of employer contributions by approximately $426,700 per occurrence of performance of duty disability retirement due to heart disease and $349,000 per occurrence of performance of duty death due to heart disease.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
