Amends Penal Law Section 240.55 (falsely reporting an incident in the first degree) to include false reports or warnings of the use of a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument, in addition to existing prohibited reports about fires, explosions, or hazardous substance releases.

Amends Penal Law Section 240.60 (falsely reporting an incident in the second degree) to include false reports of the use of a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument on school grounds, alongside existing prohibited reports about fires, explosions, or hazardous substance releases.

Applies the same legal standards to false reports of deadly weapon or dangerous instrument use as existing false emergency reporting crimes, requiring circumstances where public alarm or inconvenience is likely to result.

Takes effect 60 days after becoming law.
