Payment card networks must make the merchant category-code for firearms and ammunition businesses available to merchant acquirers by November 1, 2024.

Merchant acquirers must assign the firearms and ammunition merchant category-code (established by the International Organization for Standardization on September 9, 2022) to all dealers of firearms and ammunition in New York by May 1, 2025.

Defines "dealer of firearms" as licensed gunsmiths or firearms dealers under Penal Law § 400.00 where combined sales of firearms, accessories, or ammunition represent the highest sales value.

Defines "dealer of ammunition" as any person engaged in purchasing, selling, or keeping ammunition in New York.

Attorney General may issue written notice of violations and seek injunctive relief if violations are not cured within 30 days; courts may impose civil penalties up to $10,000 per violation plus attorney's fees and costs.
