Grants peace officer status to security officers employed by Rochester Regional Health at Rochester General Hospital and Unity Hospital campuses and facilities.

Peace officer powers apply within Rochester Regional Health grounds and premises, and beyond that area only when requested by the chief law enforcement officer for transporting arrested individuals when no local law enforcement is available.

Security officers granted only limited peace officer powers: arrest authority, search and seizure, protection of persons, execution of warrants, detention of individuals, and protection of property.

Officers may detain individuals for a reasonable period while awaiting law enforcement arrival if they have actual knowledge or probable cause that the person committed an offense.

Firearm possession, repair, or disposal by these officers prohibited unless proper licensing is obtained under Penal Law section 400.00.
