Establishes minimum qualifications for coroners who are not licensed physicians, requiring them to be certified nurse practitioners, licensed physician assistants, certified medicolegal death investigators, or hold an associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing, natural science, forensic science, anthropology or related field while pursuing certification from the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators or similar organization

Allows current coroners who do not meet these qualifications as of the effective date to complete their current term

Mandates that boards of supervisors in counties where the coroner is not a licensed physician must appoint one or more coroner's physicians who are duly licensed to practice medicine in New York State

Changes coroner's physician statutory language from "his" to "their" to use gender-neutral pronouns

Takes effect one year after becoming law
