Duane A. Palma, currently a deputy sheriff employed by Monroe County Sheriff's Office, receives full retirement service credit for his prior employment as a correction officer at the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Jail Bureau beginning February 22, 1999, under the optional twenty-year retirement plan.

Monroe County must elect to assume the additional cost within one year of the act's effective date by filing a resolution with the state comptroller, and Palma must elect coverage within eighteen months.

All employer past service costs are borne by Monroe County and may be amortized over five years, with an estimated one-time cost of approximately $177,000 or $39,600 annually if amortized.

Palma becomes entitled to full rights and benefits of the twenty-year retirement plan coverage upon filing a request with the state comptroller.

The act takes effect immediately.
