Requires commercial health insurance policies providing medical or major medical coverage to include peer support services as part of outpatient substance use disorder treatment

Mandates coverage for peers certified by the Office of Mental Health and peer support services provided by certified recovery peer advocates as defined by the Office of Addiction Services and Supports

Amends three sections of the insurance law (sections 3216, 3221, and 4303) to apply the requirement across different types of insurance policies and contracts

Prohibits insurers from applying more restrictive financial requirements or treatment limitations to substance use disorder benefits than those applied to medical and surgical benefits

Takes effect 30 days after becoming law
