Borough presidents in New York City would be authorized to remove community district education council members they appointed if those members engage in criminal wrongdoing or misconduct

"Misconduct" would be defined by the chancellor of the New York City Department of Education

Upon removal by a borough president, the community council or board must declare a vacancy and certify it to the chancellor

The bill also updates existing law to use gender-neutral pronouns ("they/their" instead of "he/she/his/her")

The act takes effect immediately upon passage
