Grants competitive civil service status to spouses and children of U.S. armed forces members killed in the line of duty during wartime

Applicants must submit documentary proof of eligibility within at least two months of filing their application for the status

Eligible lists may be established after two months from the final application filing date, even if some applicants have not yet proven eligibility

Applicants who fail to establish eligibility by the time an eligible list is created cannot later receive the status on that list

Recipients who obtain a permanent civil service appointment using this status cannot claim the benefit again for future appointments
