Creates an artificial intelligence working group within the New York Department of Education to develop guidance and model policies for safe AI use in schools that benefits pupils and educators without replacing them

Working group consists of 15 members including the Education Commissioner (chair), Office of Information Technology Services director (vice chair), 8 governor appointees, and 4 legislative appointees drawn from school administrators, teachers, university faculty, and private sector AI experts

Requires the working group to assess current AI technologies used in schools, including costs, licensing agreements, data ownership, and educator involvement in adoption decisions, with at least 3 public meetings for stakeholder feedback

Guidance on safe AI use must be completed by January 1, 2026, and a model policy addressing academic integrity, data privacy, acceptable uses, software procurement, and professional development must be completed by July 1, 2026

Final report with findings and recommendations due to the Governor and legislative leaders by January 1, 2027, after which the working group dissolves; the act expires January 31, 2031
