Increases the civil jurisdictional limit for justice courts (town and village courts) from $3,000 to $5,000 for money actions and actions to recover chattels

Raises the small claims court threshold from $3,000 to $5,000, allowing claims up to $5,000 exclusive of interest and costs

Increases small claims filing fees from $10 to $15 for claims of $1,000 or less, and from $15 to $20 for claims over $1,000

Removes outdated provisions that allowed city courts governed by the act to have lower monetary jurisdiction limits

Takes effect on January 1 following enactment and applies to actions or proceedings filed on or after that date
