Allows active volunteer firefighters and active volunteer ambulance workers to audit courses at SUNY institutions and community colleges without paying tuition, on a space-available basis (a benefit previously limited to persons 60 years of age or older)

Permits the SUNY Board of Trustees to create regulations authorizing course credit for audited courses successfully completed by volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers

Grants institution presidents discretion to award credit for audited courses to volunteers who are currently enrolled or later become enrolled as full-time or part-time students

Defines eligible volunteers by reference to existing General Municipal Law definitions for active volunteer firefighters and active volunteer ambulance workers

Takes effect 90 days after becoming law
