John J. Ivers served in the U.S. Navy from December 1, 1944 to July 14, 1946 as a Radioman on the USS Lake Champlain during WWII, achieving the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class

Re-entered service in the U.S. Marine Corps on January 12, 1948, serving as a Radio Operator and earning the Silver Star for gallantry in action while defending his command post under enemy attack

Military decorations include the American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation with bronze star, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Medal

The Saratoga County Veterans Service Agency will honor Ivers at the Honor our Deceased Veterans Ceremony on June 17, 2025 in Ballston Spa, New York; Ivers passed away on April 29, 2010 at age 82
