Commemorates the 200th anniversary of General Marquis de Lafayette's 1825 visit to Rome, Oriskany, Whitestown, and Utica, New York, which occurred during his 24-state "Farewell Tour" as "The Nation's Guest"

Lafayette, a French aristocrat who joined the American Revolution at age 19 in 1777, served as a major general and fought in key battles including Brandywine and the Siege of Yorktown

During his 1825 Utica visit, approximately 5,000 citizens greeted Lafayette with cannon fire, church bells, and cheers; he met with Revolutionary War veterans and visited prominent families including the granddaughter of President John Adams

Anniversary events scheduled for June 9-10, 2025 include a General Lafayette reenactor, 1820s-era breakfast fundraiser, six-horse drawn carriages, and dedication of Lafayette Square on Lafayette Street in downtown Utica
