Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease causing the immune system to overreact and form granulomas (microscopic clumps of inflammatory cells) that can damage organs throughout the body

The disease most commonly affects the lungs (90% or more of diagnosed cases) and lymph nodes, with symptoms including cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, and chest pain

Notes that many 9/11 First Responders in New York City developed sarcoidosis due to breathing heavy dust at the site

People of African and Scandinavian descent, women, and those aged 20-40 are at higher risk of developing the disease
