David A. Catallo of Waterford, New York is posthumously designated as a recipient of the Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the New York State Senate

Served as a Navy Corpsman in the 6th Naval Beach Battalion and landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day (June 6, 1944) as part of the first wave of American forces, where he was wounded by artillery shell explosion

Received military decorations including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device, Presidential Unit Citation, and France's Croix de Guerre and Legion of Honor for his heroism

Following military service, worked 35 years with the U.S. Postal Service, including as Waterford Postmaster from 1972-1981, and served as Treasurer of Kavanaugh Hook and Ladder Company for 41 consecutive years

Passed away on October 15, 2019 at age 94 after 69 years of marriage to his wife Gloria, with whom he raised two children
