Department was formally organized on October 15, 1925, at a local schoolhouse meeting following a devastating fire in the Elmhurst area that destroyed numerous cottages

Charter members raised nearly $5,000 through membership fees and fundraising to purchase a Peter Pirsch triple combination pumper truck in December 1925

Department was incorporated under New York State law in May 1926, serving the Towns of Ellicott and Ellery with approximately 50 active charter members and 15 social members

Over 100 years, the department expanded to include additional stations, a First Aid Unit, tankers, ambulances, and emergency rescue equipment while maintaining its volunteer service model
