Sheryl and Joseph Cohen are being honored as recipients of the Young Israel of Plainview Community Leadership Award for Outstanding Service to the Community, celebrated on March 22, 2026

Both completed Pediatric residencies at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 1999 and moved to Plainview, New York, where they raised four children

Sheryl Cohen served in multiple leadership roles including Youth Committee Chair, Treasurer, and President of the Shul Sisterhood, as well as PTA Treasurer and President at HANC Plainview

Joseph Cohen volunteered at HANC beginning in 2003, welcomed new families to the synagogue, and currently serves as a weekday gabbai while maintaining religious texts

The New York State Senate resolution formally recognizes their dedication to civic and charitable endeavors in their community
