New York Assembly Resolution honoring Firefighter John Karl for 50 years of service to the Main-Transit Fire Department, to be celebrated in 2026

John Karl joined the department on October 20, 1975, and has served as fire lieutenant, captain, assistant chief, chief, safety officer, director, and chairman of the board

Third-generation firefighter whose father George was chief and the only Main-Transit member to die in the line of duty; his two brothers William and Robert also served as chiefs

All three of his children serve the department: Adam as chief, Michael as 1st assistant chief, and Nicholas as an exempt member

Outside firefighting, he is co-owner of Refrigeration Sales and Services, a multi-generational family company in Williamsville, New York
